WWE Backlash 2026 went down Saturday night at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. Five matches on the card and the results landed mostly where the booking pointed them, with one genuinely nasty main event that delivered more than expected.

Bron Breakker opened the show against Seth Rollins and looked every bit the top-of-the-card talent WWE has been building toward. Breakker won clean and the statement was loud. Trick Williams followed by holding off Sami Zayn to retain the United States Championship in a match that gave Zayn plenty to work with without putting him over. Danhausen and Minihausen beat Kit Wilson and The Miz in tag action. Iyo Sky defeated Asuka to pick up a meaningful singles win.

The main event was Roman Reigns against Jacob Fatu for the World Heavyweight Championship. Fatu pushed Reigns harder than the finish suggests. Reigns needed underhanded tactics to get the pin and left Fatu looking strong in defeat. John Cena appeared post-show to announce the John Cena Classic, a new event pitting main roster talent against NXT.

Maxxedout’s Take: Breakker is the story coming out of Tampa. That opening match did more for him than six months of promos. Reigns surviving Fatu by cheating keeps both men in the conversation, but if WWE does not pull the trigger on Fatu soon they will burn through the goodwill that match just built.

MaxxedOut will break down the full show on this week’s podcast.
